Fashion's Night Out - Dublin

As you all probably know, on Thursday 8th September the fashion world went nuts for Vogue's Fashion's Night Out. Having previously heard of it happening in cities like New York and London I wondered what it was all about.
So I took myself and my housemate along for a little nose at what Dublin had to offer for this much talked about and MUCH publicised event. Seriously, even my boyfriend knew about it and he doesn't know much about much.
I was unsure about what sort of 'events' would be happening and wondered what would differentiate it from a regular instore event. Ultimately, I decided that not much did. There was a bit of a buzz along Dublin's shopping mecca of Grafton Street, however  it was hard to tell if that was because Dublin Fashion Festival started on the same day.

Our first port of call was to BT2. For those non-Irish readers amongst you (hi guys!), Brown Thomas is Ireland's foremost high-end fashion department store. It's where the celebs go shopping when they're in town and stock pretty much every designer you could  name off the top of your head. BT2 is it's younger, hipper sister, stocking labels such as Maje, Twenty8Twelve and boasting a denim bar with the best bumlifters this side of VB's own wardrobe.

We were greeted at the door of BT2 by some lovely young men holding trays of cocktails...for free! Delish. Also doing the rounds were miniature Starbucks frappucinno's and mini cakes. Already onto a winner here. A DJ booth was being set up in amongst the jeans and an Instagram photo corner with rails of clothes and a pamper parlour were taking pride of place near the tills. We bypassed these to find out what was going on upstairs upon hearing voices over a microphone.
A mini fashion show with stylist Courtney Smith was in full swing and featured some of the best brands available in BT2
Some of my favourite looks included:

Dress - MSGM @ BT2

Dress - Maje @ BT2

Geisha inspired playsuit - Twenty8Twelve @ BT2

Seeing these pieces just made me lament for my credit card so we quickly hot-trotted our way back downstairs. Upon arrival to the denim bar we were asked if we wanted to take part in an Instagram event where you got styled by one of BT2's lovely stylists and had your photo taken by streetstyle blogger Stephen Moloney of Stitches, Fabric and Soul. I declined out of nervousness, but I pushed my housemate into doing it and she looked great!

We guzzled the rest of our cocktails and made our way to the bigger Brown Thomas store down the street, expecting more of the same. Unfortunately we felt a little let down. There was a Fashion Cafe outstide on the street where you could sit and chat the night away with your friends, luckily it was a dry evening, a rare event in Ireland these days. At the door you were greeted by faux-Karl Lagerfeld and faux-Anna Wintour, a touch tacky, I personally felt.

Inside there were competitions for a night in a hotel and a suitcase filled with skincare goodies. For entertainment there were drag queen & cabaret shows, as well as catwalks and plenty of styling, skincare & beauty advice should you want it. However, most counters required a payment so it really seemed little more than a busy late night shopping night. After a grumpy phonecall from my boyfriend and with a light wallet I decided to call it a night. My housemate stayed on for a while and did get a free magnetic nail polish demonstration and free manicure from Nails Inc. - not too shabby, I guess!

All in all, it was a fun way to waste an hour or two. BT2 nailed it with their instore event and I felt it was miles apart from the supposed main event down the way in Brown Thomas. For anyone that travelled any distance especially for it, I would feel a bit sorry for them that it may have been built up to be more than it was, but then again maybe others expected it to be an event where splashing the cash was required? I just can't help but feel a little let down when I look at the amazing events that were held in London & New York. Where was our Leighton Meester singing with an acoustic guitar, hmm? Oh well, I guess there's always next year.

Did you go along to any of the events? I'd love to hear people's thoughts and those of anyone that went to events in other cities - please comment below.
Have a good weekend ya'll.

Guess Who?

Ok, maybe to everyone else it's glaringly obvious who this is, but to me it came as a small shock. Small, not a HUGE shock.
Can you tell me who you think this is? No Googling now!!

This Week! Dublin Festival of Fashion

I'm pretty excited about this, unfortunately i'll be away for some of the events, including the blogger extravaganza on Saturday, boo! So, if anyone is planning on making a trip for any of the events, do let me know how you got on and what you thought of the festival in general.
I shall be at the catwalk show on Thursday, so I'll hopefully get some good shots. I'm also excited about seeing some of the design students work.
Anyhow, below are some of the exciting things on offer should you be about this week.

Dublin Fashion Festival Model Search
The Dublin Fashion Festival has joined forces with 1st Option Model Management to seek out the country’s hottest new model. As part of the already brimming festival programme, the model search will take place on Friday, 9th September between 2.30 and 5.30 in the Dublin Fashion Festival HQ in the old Waterstones building on Dawson Street. There, model hopefuls can meet with the industry-expert judging panel to see if they can make the cut to be Ireland’s freshest face in fashion.
Prizes are: a three-year modelling contract with 1st Option Model Management, a front cover photo shoot for The Dubliner Magazine, jewellery worth €600 from top jewellers Pandora and an A-Wear goody bag.

The competition is open to females only, ages 14 to 21. It is advised to come along with a natural make-up look, an outfit that flatters your figure and to wear stilettos and a handbag.
For more information see www.dff.ie

Young Designer Celebration
A sneak preview of some of Ireland's up & coming fashion designers. Fashion HQ in the old Waterstones Building on Dawson St will provide a home for some of the names that will be on everyone's lips in the coming years.

Vintage Pop-up Shops
Again, in the Fashion HQ on Dawson Street - well worth a look and with lots of already well-known vintage shops offering their wares. Dammit, and I said i'd be leaving my wallet at home!!

Vogue Fashion Night Out
This has taken place in London & New York to name a few. For this first time this year we will also being seeing Vogue's Fashion Night Out taking place in Dublin as part of the Festival of Fashion. Taking place in luxurious Brown Thomas (where else?!) you can become a Vogue Cover Star, get pampered, inspired, check out some Irish designers and forget your worries at the fashion cafe and catwalks.
Thursday 8th Sep 18.00 - 23.00, Brown Thomas, Grafton Street

Style School - LA Makeup & "Get The Look" Sessions
Taking place at various times over the weekend in the Fashion HQ building, get advise from Sarah Jane Wai O'Flynn from LA Makeup Academy. I've been to one of Sarah Jane's make-up demo's and she is a complete pro. Not only has she got great tips for makeup, but she's also a really funny and easily approachable person, so if you've got some burning makeup questions that you've been too scared to ask, now's your chance!!

There is SO much going on that it's impossible for me to list all of my favourites and what i'm looking forward to. Check out the website http://www.dff.ie/
Let me know below if there's anything you're excited about on the lineup or suggestions of things to check out.

New online discovery: Romwe

You might remember that I recently featured Fashion Chalet as one of my Monday Muse's. I noticed that a lot of her awesome clothing & accessories were from Romwe and decided to check them out for myself.
To say I was excited when I checked out the site is an understatement. Really, REALLY, reasonably priced clothes, shoes and accessories with an option for FREE delivery and 20% off your first order.
Now, the sizing is slightly questionable, so i'm gonna do a small order first and see how they run before going mad and ordering everything - currently I have €735 in my shopping basket, ahem.

Here's the lovely  Fashion Chalet in a recent outfit post featuring a romwe.com dress.

If any of you have bought from Romwe do let me know your thoughts below. Otherwise, here's a pick of a few of my favourite pieces available. I'm just waiting for a new payday before I splurge too much!

I literally could be here all afternoon just posting pictures of things that I love on here. The jewellery also looks great, with prices to match too. One of things I love is that prices are available in sterling, euro and dollar and you can see you're not being ripped off with conversion fees, a personal pet peeve.
Happy shopping - let me know what you think!

Together in Electric Dreams

For the next few days I shall be away at Ireland's best outdoor music festival, Electric Picnic.

I shall be back then with LOADS of new & exciting posts, especially some upcoming about Dublin Festival of Fashion.

For now, i'm gonna sign off with a pick of some of my fave looks from last weekend's Reading festival, which, incidentally, is where I was born. Not the festival, Reading!
Think of me in a tent while you're all tucked up in your warm beds!!
